Our Favorite Mindfulness Apps

Head Space

Founder Andy Puddicombe developed this wonderful app with great animated videos offering in-depth explanation and covering issues such as birth, death, health and wellness.  Headspace focuses on meditation and mindfulness training and is often referred to as “a gym membership for your mind.” There is a free 10-day program – Take Ten – and we recommend you use this to get you started.

While other meditation apps need you to find ten or twenty minutes of quiet time per day, we know that even that can be a struggle to fit into an already busy schedule.  We like Buddhify as it focuses on mobile or on-the-go meditation – making it difficult to make excuses to forego your daily meditation practice! Buddhify describes itself as “modern mindfulness wherever you are.”  You can set it up to keep track of your mindfulness practice in a chart and this is helpful in reinforcing more practice and consistency.

Insight Timer

IOS and Android

This is a free app that allows you to see how many thousands of people across the world are meditating at the same time as you.  Insight Timer offers sleep-specific meditations, guided imagery, music, chanting, and much more – in fact over eight thousand tracks from people like Tara Brach, Sharon Salzberg, Jack Kornfeld, Thich Nhat Hahn, and Ram Dass. You can also choose a quieter calming meditation by setting a timer with mindfulness bell sounds.
